FIFA Plans Carbon Neutral World Cup 2022

FIFA and Quatar have jointly committed to ensuring the next World Cup in 2022 will be both carbon neutral and environmentally sensitive, despite the challenges such an event will present.

In a statement, FIFA stated they want to set a ‘benchmark’ and leave a ‘legacy’ but achieving such a target.  The organisation plans to accomplish this by implementing waste procedures, water management practices, sustainable building and low emission alternatives.  8 stadiums will need to be refurbished in preparation for the tournament, and FIFA has demanded that sustainable building regulations are followed during the process as well as assessing the environmental impact.

Here’s hoping FIFA are able to set an example for future event across the globe!
