3 Billion Animals Affected by Australian Bushfires

According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) nearly 3 billion animals were either killed or displaced as a result of the Australian bush fires, starting in 2019 and running into this year.

WWF have declared the incident one of the “worst wildlife disasters in modern history.  The project was undertaken by 10 scientists in Australian universities and based on estimated animal populations from before the fires took hold.

Many species are now at risk, with calls for Australian conservation to me improved.  Findings of the royal inquiry into the blazes are expected in October 2020.

At least 33 people were also killed in the blazes.
