A giant tree sculpture made out of 350 individual trees took centre stage in front of Buckingham Palace for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Designed by Thomas Heatherwick, the sculpture is part of a scheme to plant more than a million trees, as set out in the Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) initiative, marking 70 years of her reign.
The sculpture also played a key role in the monumental beacon lighting on the evening of the Jubilee celebrations on 2nd June, as it lit up in front of the Duke of Cambridge and onlookers upon the Queen triggering the lighting of more than 3,500 beacons across the UK.
Community groups across Great Britain will receive the trees for planting after the Jubilee weekend.
