21% of UK Councils Have Rewilding Plan

1 in 5 are already rewilding, or planning to start.

1 in 5 UK councils have reported that they are currently rewilding in their district, or plan to do so in the near future.

In a joint investigation by the Guardian and wildlife magazine Inkcap Journal, 21% have brought in policies for public land, such as scrubland and old golf courses.

It is hoped that as commitment to rewilding increases, the contribution this will make to UK biodiversity will also greatly improve.

According to the Natural History Museum, 41 percent of UK species have declined since 1970s, with 51% of all native species classed as threatened, near threatened or already extinct in at least one of the countries of Great Britain.
