The first bison in thousands of years to be born on UK soil has been discovered in Kent woodland, it was announced this week.
The project to reintroduce European bison to the British wild has already been described as groundbreaking, and those overseeing the herd made the shocking discovery last month whilst monitoring the area.
As there is no male currently living with the heard, the mother would have unknowingly arrived to the project already pregnant.
Experts are taking a ‘hands off’ approach to their care, and are currently observing the group and new calf – who are said to be adapting to their wild environment well and were expected to breed naturally imminently.
